Unplug the power to your modem. Locate the ethernet cable connecting your computer to your modem.

Check out the back of your wireless router. Most routers have four ethernet (LAN) ports grouped together and a fifth one that is separated from the other four. Unplug the ethernet cable from your computer and plug into the separate fifth (WAN) port on the back of your router.

Get your extra ethernet cable. Plug one end into one of the four LAN ports on your router and plug the other into your computer.

Plug in the power to your modem and then plug in the power to your router.
